Anniversary Day

Today is a del Rio anniversary. We have been married four wonderful years and have been del Rio just over 10 years. We took some time to give the dogs some play time. The last picture is from a herding trial in which turkeys were on the menu and a Sheltie thought that was just fine!

Here’s Sarah’s email to us after her second Rally appearance Sunday:

I am so proud of our baby. The rally judge was a collie breeder and asked how old she was. When I told her that she was only 8 months, she was super impressed. She said that it was amazing that such a young Mal has that much focus and confidence. It felt really good to hear the judge say that. I know you guys are really happy with her and so are we but it makes it even better when a judge says so.

Kudos to Brooklyn in Illinois!

So this afternoon Miss Brooklyn ran in her first CPE trial. We ran the standard course and jumped 16 inches. Not only did she run perfectly, she had the best course time by more than 25 seconds at 30.07 seconds. So we got a 1st place ribbon at her 1st run at her 1st trial! She did even better than I expected her to do. I knew she’d be ok with the obstacles and wouldn’t care that the judge was in the ring, but she was even going out to jumps on her own when usually I have to be closer to them than I was.

The above is from Brooklyn’s owner, Kristen, who has been training her for some time. Additionally, Brooklyn passed her herding Instinct Test and below are the photos from that.

Just wanted to share a beautiful sunset here in rural Virginia. To make it Malinois-related, the pups barked at me when I first tried to shoot it out back! I gave up to spare the neighbors and went out front, where I wasn’t paying attention and fell off the front porch!

So, the eagle has landed. Actually 8 eagles. 6 girls and 2 boys. All active, healthy appearing and very vocal. Mewing, grunting, and little yips can be heard from the brood. Tammy is doing well – she looks great and seems to be very relaxed. We’ve been able to get her to leave the pups long enough to change out bedding, blankets and sheets from the whelping box.

I’ve got my list of C names – unfortunately, I won’t be able to use many of the male names. But some of the names are unisex so they should transfer well. The other dogs have not been been allowed near the whelping box so Tammy has not had to read anyone the riot act. Life is good and we expect to get some sleep tonight.

This weekend should be the first opportunity for pics!

Bobby & I are members of the American Belgian Malinois Club, the American Working Malinois Association and Shenandoah Belgian Shepherd Club (UKC). We commit to breeding healthy dogs and guarantee this with a written contract. Angela has signed the ABMC Breeder’s Code of Ethics and agrees to abide by it.

Puppies are raised indoors, underfoot and socialized by our families, friends and their children. Puppies are microchipped and AKC registered before going to their new homes. All homes will be screened. Prospective owner will need to fill out a buyers questionnaire, and a contract must be signed prior to the puppy going home with you.

Our main interest is getting the puppy into a situation which will benefit both the family and the puppy! We want you to be happy with your choice and will do everything we can to make that happen. Be prepared to come pick up your puppy in person. We will not ship puppies to people we have not met/do not know.

This litter is co-bred with Allee Sablee Belgian Malinois of Vienna, VA, owned by Sandy (Hester) Bakewell www.alleesablee.com . The registered name will be Allee Sablee C———- del Rio.

Puppies are temperament tested by a licensed behaviorist and evaluated by a conformation expert for soundness and type, in order for the right match for the needs of puppy and new owner. This requires prospective owners to be realistic about their needs, interests and abilities. Enthusiastic people tend to overestimate their ability. This could lead to the puppy being placed in the wrong home. This won’t work for anyone, so the best bet is to be honest with yourself.

Puppies are raised on the Bio-Sensor program, exposed to many sights and sounds, started on crate training, car rides and listen to CD’s of fireworks, children playing, crying, traffic sounds, gunfire and more.

Malinois are intelligent, sensitive and energetic dogs. They require exercise and an owner that is dedicated to consistent, fair and ongoing training. You should plan on taking your puppy to positive training obedience classes and keep it up until they are mature. You may even decide to try competitive obedience, agility, herding, SAR, tracking or one of the protection sports. There are no limits with a Malinois!

We will not send a puppy home with you unless we feel it is the right match for your experience and expectations.
