]]> http://www.delriokennels.com/blog/2008/11/malinois_more-pictures-of-the-parents/feed/ 0 The color of puppy http://www.delriokennels.com/blog/2008/11/malinois_the-color-of-puppy/ http://www.delriokennels.com/blog/2008/11/malinois_the-color-of-puppy/#comments Thu, 06 Nov 2008 10:58:44 +0000 Bobby http://www.delriokennels.com/blog/?p=267 We are starting to see a distinct change in coat color.  Although that will probably change over the next few days and weeks, we’ve been able to see a sable/fawn or at least lighter coats in two, four mahogany/dark coats, and two gray colored coats.  Not sure how the gray will end up – its really more like a gun metal and almost bluish.  It could also be the lights in the den.

I’ve gotten used to sharing office space with the pups.  Their little mews are now comforting.  I get a little scared when all is quiet although I’m sure when I’m not around, they are pretty silent.

We begin BioSensor this weekend.  The CD sounds of human life will also start.  I’ll try to time the dogs barking CD + the baby/children sounds CD with their feeding.

Tammy is doing remarkeably well.  She is eating three meals a day and is more active in telling us about her own potty time. She is also more relaxed about the little.  This group is VERY mobile and she’s allowed them to actually wander away from her in the whelping box. With the last litter, she was very protective and needed to always have them around her.

I’m thinking I need to take pictures before Saturday but with the time change, there is so much less light available in the morning and I’m hesitant to turn on lights just to take pics. I’d rather the hamsters get their normal rest even though I know they cannot see and probably don’t register sounds/light too well at this stage.

I’ve got my list of C names – unfortunately, I won’t be able to use many of the male names.  But some of the names are unisex so they should transfer well.  The other dogs have not been been allowed near the whelping box so Tammy has not had to read anyone the riot act.  Life is good and we expect to get some sleep tonight.

This weekend should be the first opportunity for pics!

Its time for the blog o’ rama marathon about puppies.

Within a day or two, I expect to see a bunch of fat gopher babies. On Saturday, we had the last scan and the vet saw at least 6 spines.  And I am hoping for males. It seems that everyone wants boys. No one wants the girls.  Two years ago it was the exact opposite.

The Fantastic Six from the B litter are now approaching their 19th month in age and all are doing quite well. We’ve been able to visit with all of them over the past year to check on their progress.  Twice to Atlanta, once to Chicago-land, once to see the Rhode Island boy, one DC dog, and one that is here locally.  What? Did I forget one?  Yes, our Thai who has spent part of her life with her friend and handler Jo Ann.

Whelping box is up, the various barriers to keep the other dogs out are up, the towels, blankets, wipes, scale, thermometer, etc. are all ready and available.  Sleepless nights have already begun. I was semi-delirious at work today with calls back home only to get the “non-event” news.

I’m ready.  Fingers are primed. Keyboard is positioned.  The camera is powered up. and the aspirin is at arm’s length.

We commit to breeding healthy dogs and guarantee this with a written contract.  Angela has signed the ABMC Breeder’s Code of Ethics and agrees to abide by it.

Puppies are raised indoors, underfoot and socialized by our families, friends and their children.  Puppies are microchipped and AKC registered before going to their new homes.  All homes will be screened.  Prospective owner will need to fill out a buyers questionnaire, and a contract must be signed prior to the puppy going home with you.

Our main interest is getting the puppy into a situation which will benefit both the family and the puppy!  We want you to be happy with your choice and will do everything we can to make that happen.  Be prepared to come pick up your puppy in person.  We will not ship puppies to people we have not met/do not know.  

This litter is co-bred with Allee Sablee Belgian Malinois of Vienna, VA, owned by Sandy (Hester) Bakewell www.alleesablee.com .  The registered name will be Allee Sablee C———- del Rio.  
 
Puppies are temperament tested by a licensed behaviorist and evaluated by a conformation expert for soundness and type, in order for the right match for the needs of puppy and new owner. This requires prospective owners to be realistic about their needs, interests and abilities. Enthusiastic people tend to overestimate their ability. This could lead to the puppy being placed in the wrong home.  This won’t work  for anyone, so the best bet is to be honest with yourself.

Puppies are raised on the Bio-Sensor program, exposed to many sights and sounds, started on crate training, car rides and listen to CD’s of fireworks, children playing, crying, traffic sounds, gunfire and more.

Malinois are intelligent, sensitive and energetic dogs.  They require exercise and an owner that is dedicated to consistent, fair and ongoing training.  You should plan on taking your puppy to positive training obedience classes and keep it up until they are mature.  You may even decide to try competitive obedience, agility, herding, SAR, tracking or one of the protection sports.  There are no limits with a Malinois!  

We will not send a puppy home with you unless we feel it is the right match for your experience and expectations.
