del Rio kennels – home to belgian malinois bio picture

Welcome to del Rio malinois!

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But throughout the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is so much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Frederick County near Winchester, Virginia which is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of northern Virginia, about an hour west of Washington, DC.

Their breeding program takes into consideration temperment and character, first and foremost, as well as the physical health of the parents.  The utmost concern is spent on development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Dogs who are part of our family

Our dear friend Sandy placed Star & Sequin  with our friends, Ann & Mike.  After Sandy passed away, they also took Avi, who has fit in well.  They are cherished members of their family and we love to see how well they are doing.  [click on the thumbnails to enlarge]

Kudos to Brooklyn in Illinois!

So this afternoon Miss Brooklyn ran in her first CPE trial.  We ran the standard course and jumped 16 inches.  Not only did she run perfectly, she had the best course time by more than 25 seconds at 30.07 seconds.  So we got a 1st place ribbon at her 1st run at her 1st trial! ...

Pasha in Charlottesville, VA

We took Vesper to the Charlottesville, VA show for socialization. Although she won two majors the weekend prior, we believe that the more socialization she can experience, the better!  While we were there, we ran into Miss Kathy.  Kathy has been the temperament evaluator for our last two litters.  She meets them for the first...

Warning: Nudity (of the Belgian kind)

Got some pix today of the kids while Bobby was out hunting for plumbing at Lowe’s.  Is there nothing sacred anymore??  Tami was willing to pose nude on the grooming table, got a couple butt shots of puppies, these Malinois are completely shameless.

Gorgeous Sunset in Virginia

Just wanted to share a beautiful sunset here in rural Virginia.  To make it Malinois-related, the pups barked at me when I first tried to shoot it out back!  I gave up to spare the neighbors and went out front, where I wasn’t paying attention and fell off the front porch!

Can’t wait for the weekend!

I’m really looking forward to this weekend. I’m going to be able to handle the pups more in order to get better pictures. They are very mobile and we have a 3-4 brave souls lifting themselves up versus just pushing themselves around. Or in Bobby-speak, we have actual crawlage. And if you have not noticed,...

I just let Tammy out to do her business.  I left the gate from the deck to the yard open and the door to the dog room open so she could let herself in. I then headed off to the garage to prepare her a morning meal.Being a smart dog who rules the house, she...

Hester L. “Sandy” Bakewell 1944-2008

An adaptation by her friend, Furman Joye.  This made me cry, it was so sweet.  She was our mentor, our friend;  sweet, funny, determined Sandy.  We will never forget her. DEATH *Weep not, weep not,* *She is not dead;* *She’s resting in the bosom of Jesus.* *Heart-broken friends—weep no more;* *Grief-stricken husband—weep no more;* *She’s...

October 22, 2008 - 5:49 pm Tom - That is a beautiful sermon from "God's Trombones," if I remember correctly. It is moving even generically, out of context. But it is especially lovely when used as a tribute such as this. Rest in peace in the bosom of Jesus, Sandy.

Tami looking beautiful

Our (hopefully pregnant) girl Tami’s favorite pastime is looking out on the deck into the back yard for wildlife.  She goes from room to room, looking out the windows for deer or squirrels.  But she looks SO pretty doing it….
