Welcome to del Rio malinois!

*PUPPY CAM IS NOW LIVE - Click to Enjoy*

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But throughout the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is so much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Frederick County near Winchester, Virginia which is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of northern Virginia, about an hour west of Washington, DC.

Their breeding program takes into consideration temperment and character, first and foremost, as well as the physical health of the parents.  The utmost concern is spent on development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Love and Rockets

The sun melted the snow away today revealing a bit of what nature has in store for us. I was able to pull my camera out and shoot a bit. Through observation of my furry loves, I was able to find the song that I had been straining to hear the last few days. With...

Winter Wonderland – before and after

I thought this might make a decent before and after – so I took a snapshot of the house before it snowed and after it snowed.  And a few of my Thai running toward me.

March 21, 2009 - 2:19 pm Monica Shaw - Love these pictures of Thai. She and Bruce look so much alike!

March 8, 2009 - 6:48 am Bobby - Well, you'll have to send him up here to Virginia for a winter.

March 3, 2009 - 9:13 pm Kerrie Honey - I would so love to see my boy, Bronson, running through the snow. Not much hope of that happening in tropical Australia though. I'll just have to enjoy watching him swim. Great shots.

What the heck? Life is blessed…….

A week ago today, I thought I would be writing a different blog post. During a normal evening with my 52 lb. Belgian Malinois female laying all over me, I felt an unusual bump on her upper thigh.  At first I thought it might be an embedded tick although it wasn’t the season.  I asked...

Vesper Lynd Goes A-Herdin’

A few pics of Vesper undergoing her herding instinct test this past weekend.  Vesper, named after James Bond’s first girlfriend from Casino Royale, is a keg o’ dynamite.  She’s always on the move and is more Tasmanian Devil than Malinois.

A Dog’s Life – Friends Remembered…..

A dog’s life is a phrase you hear on occasion. What does it really mean? That having a dog’s life is something bad, something negative? I would beg to differ and I think some of you might as well given the lives we try to provide our canines. A dog’s life can closely resemble our...

Gorgeous Sunset in Virginia

Just wanted to share a beautiful sunset here in rural Virginia.  To make it Malinois-related, the pups barked at me when I first tried to shoot it out back!  I gave up to spare the neighbors and went out front, where I wasn’t paying attention and fell off the front porch!

For Your Turkey Day Viewing Pleasure

Shot these last night – pups are now marching their way from three week toward four weeks of age.  They are all very agile and we are starting to see where the ears, heads and bodies will be in a few weeks. Temperaments are solid with a few very adventurous pups.  Green and Gold girls...

Close call

We’ve chronicled Tammy’s toy killing obsession. She can murder an animal toy faster than the stock market is dropping.  Its dramatic, its sudden, sometimes very frightening and you have to wonder who is going to have to clean up the mess. But I digress. She must have carried a piece of the fuzz into the...

Blast from the Past

Looking over some old images this morning I found one of Angela with Reno being coached by Dan.  This was in 2003 when we lived in Iowa. It was a very cold day in December during practice with our Schutzhund club.  Dan was from a neighboring club and he would come down to train with...

Training and other things

We began the BioSensor training with the pups yesterday. This entails handling the pups, putting them in physically different positions than they are currently used to and bringing them environmental sensations they would not normally get. So, simply, they are held head to the sky [standing], head to the ground [diving], on their back, their...

They are FAST!

I’m not sure if I should be scared. I think I should but that just scares me to think that I should be or that I’m going to be scared. Scared to be scared. The puppies are fast.  REAL FAST.  I know they are only a few days old but they MOVE!  All around!  They never...

Sleep and Sounds

Finally got a decent night’s sleep.  Tammy is fine this am and so are the pups.  I’m enjoying the sounds of puppyhood as they suckle, move around and jockey for the best position.  Some of the pups are content to just sleep while the others are feeding away.  I’m going to have to watch that...

Who’s coming to dinner?

So, the eagle has landed.  Actually 8 eagles.  6 girls and 2 boys.  All active, healthy appearing and very vocal.  Mewing, grunting, and little yips can be heard from the brood.  Tammy is doing well – she looks great and seems to be very relaxed.  We’ve been able to get her to leave the pups...
