del Rio kennels – home to belgian malinois bio picture

Welcome to del Rio kennels!

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But through out the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Petersburg, Virginia which is located just south of Richmond, the state capitol of Virginia. Their breeding program takes into consideration the ultimate health of the parents, the development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and the training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Marching to the Eight Beat

The Crazy Eights will be turning Eight Weeks in a few days. They’ll begin their journeys with their new owners.  I’m more than ready to pass the poop picking up, down on hands and knees scrubbing, newspaper laying, 5 am pee sessions [theirs not mine], and food preparation baton on to the new owners.  I’ll...

7 Weeks Old: The Escape Artist

The C-litter turns seven weeks old tomorrow. And I have an escape artist. She tries to appear oh-so-innocent, coy and demure. She looks at me with dark almond shaped eyes that can’t quite hide the mischief that I have seen. If I were to link her to someone in real life, it would...

December 22, 2008 - 6:02 pm Kim Remmel - OMG!! LOL!! Look at that girl go! What a riot!!

Identity Theft……

I came home from my trip and found that I didn’t know some of my puppies. They had grown so much in a week that I was horrified to find that my sweet little hamster/gopher/bear cub puppies had grown into screaming, climbing, big eared escape artists! And their collars had changed. Stripe and...

What the heck? Oh the dogs I have seen…

Its been a while since I’ve written one of these but after traveling all day from Orange County, CA to Richmond, VA [up at 430 PST and arriving home at 915 EST], I was ready to rant.
First of all, I get so proud when I see a service dog at work. Whether that is...

New video…Sister Thai plays with the kids

I’ve been in So. Cal this week so my opportunity to post has been limited. Been a bit busy with work…..
AND….the home front reports that our crummy internet is out again at the house. I swear Comcast just is not a great company.
That being said, we thought we would post a endearing video...

December 20, 2008 - 7:57 am Anne & Ken - So great to see the sweet and funny interactions between Thai and the puppies. We are addicted to these beautiful and fun puppy pix and videos. Must have watched this 9 times already . . . have to watch at least once for each dog!

December 19, 2008 - 9:06 am Helen Gruenhut - So glad that you are home, Bobby. I really missed my puppy fix last week end. Thai reminds me of my own beloved bitches. Cannot get enough of these puppies.

December 18, 2008 - 5:38 pm Lori - That is absolutely adorable! What a good big sister Thai is :-)

Clearing up the iPhone cache

I had a bunch of photos on my iphone that I have not posted.  I’m currently travelling to California for the week so in lieu of the ‘traditional’ Saturday/Sunday photos, I’m substituting some iPhone images. I know its not the same – its like drizzling that buttered flavored oil at that movie theatres all over...

The Breeder’s Poem

I love my little puppy; she makes my house a home.
She’s my very sweetest little friend; I never feel alone. She makes me smile; She makes me laugh; She fills my heart with love . . .Did some person breed her, or did she fall from above?
I’ve never been a breeder, never seen life through...

Everyone Gets to Turn Five

I didn’t have to turn any of them out into the woods.  But I was tempted….give the pack a few more days and they’ll find their own routes to the outside a la Prison Break.
But everyone gets to turn five weeks. So…it was time to take some pictures of this momentous occasion. Over the next...
