Welcome to del Rio malinois!

*PUPPY CAM IS NOW LIVE - Click to Enjoy*

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But throughout the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is so much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Frederick County near Winchester, Virginia which is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of northern Virginia, about an hour west of Washington, DC.

Their breeding program takes into consideration temperment and character, first and foremost, as well as the physical health of the parents.  The utmost concern is spent on development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Can’t wait for the weekend!

I’m really looking forward to this weekend. I’m going to be able to handle the pups more in order to get better pictures. They are very mobile and we have a 3-4 brave souls lifting themselves up versus just pushing themselves around. Or in Bobby-speak, we have actual crawlage. And if you have not noticed,...

Blast from the Past

Looking over some old images this morning I found one of Angela with Reno being coached by Dan.  This was in 2003 when we lived in Iowa. It was a very cold day in December during practice with our Schutzhund club.  Dan was from a neighboring club and he would come down to train with...

On the Lam

I suspect we have a potential jailbreak.  Just a few days after tagging the little beasts with ribbons, three of the ribbons mysteriously FELL OFF!  I think they’re trying to play tricks on me by trying to confuse us as to who is who. But it won’t work…..not because I’m smarter than the puppies but...

Training and other things

We began the BioSensor training with the pups yesterday. This entails handling the pups, putting them in physically different positions than they are currently used to and bringing them environmental sensations they would not normally get. So, simply, they are held head to the sky [standing], head to the ground [diving], on their back, their...

They are FAST!

I’m not sure if I should be scared. I think I should but that just scares me to think that I should be or that I’m going to be scared. Scared to be scared. The puppies are fast.  REAL FAST.  I know they are only a few days old but they MOVE!  All around!  They never...

The color of puppy

We are starting to see a distinct change in coat color.  Although that will probably change over the next few days and weeks, we’ve been able to see a sable/fawn or at least lighter coats in two, four mahogany/dark coats, and two gray colored coats.  Not sure how the gray will end up – its...

November 6, 2008 - 4:28 pm Kim Remmel - Bobby and Angela, I really like reading your blogs! Keep em' coming! They bring light to my day. I enjoy your pics too! - Kim and Dakota

November 6, 2008 - 8:26 am Helen Gruenhut - I am enjoying this blog immensely. It is like reading a good book. It starts my day off with a smile. Tammy sounds like a great mother. The colors change so much in the first year of life. I always wished that my dogs would have kept more of the black. My dogs are of the darker, reddish color with black highlights.Beautiful, no matter the color. Hope you are resting now that Tammy is taking over most of the work. Helen Gruenhut---May God bless your day.

Short Add

I just let Tammy out to do her business.  I left the gate from the deck to the yard open and the door to the dog room open so she could let herself in. I then headed off to the garage to prepare her a morning meal.Being a smart dog who rules the house, she...

Sleep and Sounds

Finally got a decent night’s sleep.  Tammy is fine this am and so are the pups.  I’m enjoying the sounds of puppyhood as they suckle, move around and jockey for the best position.  Some of the pups are content to just sleep while the others are feeding away.  I’m going to have to watch that...

Who’s coming to dinner?

So, the eagle has landed.  Actually 8 eagles.  6 girls and 2 boys.  All active, healthy appearing and very vocal.  Mewing, grunting, and little yips can be heard from the brood.  Tammy is doing well – she looks great and seems to be very relaxed.  We’ve been able to get her to leave the pups...

November 4, 2008 - 8:04 am Helen Gruenhut - The new blog is just so exciting. Don't you know when people want males, you get girls and vice versa? A good friend of mine raises Ch Dobermans with titles at both ends. She has the same desire for sex of her pups.It is always changing. Regardless, I am excited about this litter; and the way you raise the pups. Wishing that every thing will go well with this litter and their mom. God bless, Helen Gruenhut
