del Rio kennels – home to belgian malinois bio picture

Welcome to del Rio kennels!

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But through out the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Petersburg, Virginia which is located just south of Richmond, the state capitol of Virginia. Their breeding program takes into consideration the ultimate health of the parents, the development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and the training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

For Your Turkey Day Viewing Pleasure

Shot these last night – pups are now marching their way from three week toward four weeks of age.  They are all very agile and we are starting to see where the ears, heads and bodies will be in a few weeks. Temperaments are solid with a few very adventurous pups.  Green and Gold girls...

The Little Beasts Turn 3 weeks

Its hard to try to pinpoint one moment to write about. There were so many and each one is special, interesting, funny, or endearing in some way.
And I find it difficult to relay those “moments” in such a way as to connect to the families who are watching their future family members grow up.
So….we’ve...

The Young Bond – One from the Archives

I found a picture of my baby-daddy Bond.  This was taken in January of 2007.  We met our friend Sandy for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel.  We each drove half way [and that's an hour of driving one way] and she brought baby dog Bond.  He could not have been but a year and a...

All Eyes Open and the Name Game

All pups now have their eyes open – Yeah!  Now, they look at me with crazy eyes when I step into their whelping box to hang out with the little beasties before leaving for work. Most are four legged mobile.  Others are still just getting the strength into their legs and are beginning to lift...

November 30, 2008 - 11:37 am Janet Delight - Love the T-day video! They are so cute...and hungry. Slide show is wonderful too. As usual, your photos are fabulous! Happy Thanksgiving! Janet

My eyes!!! Errr, I mean, their eyes

WE HAVE OPEN EYES.  Two eyes at least.  Purple girl has wide open eyes.  She probably cannot really see too much but she definitely recognized my beauty and charm.  So I gave her a drink of my Michelo Ultra Amber [which is a really good beer, if I may say so].
Over the course of the...

November 18, 2008 - 9:22 am Helen Gruenhut - Be careful what you name a dog. It may try to live up to its name. Maybe I should name a dog, "Perfect"; however I already have that dog.

Week 1 comes to an end

Its been a pretty good week one.  All pups are eating well, they’re very feisty and most of them are motoring around the whelping box fairly well.  The two boys are definitely larger than the others and the girls range in size, at this point, from good sized to “normal” size.
Gold girl is very active...

Tammy Whammy

You might notice first of all that all of those that subscribe to this blog are now receiving the feed again. Yes, it was broken and broken due to a technical difficulty. I’m hoping the changes I made fixed the problem.
Ok, so my day was pretty eventful.  Yesterday, when we came home Tammy had thrown...

Close call

We’ve chronicled Tammy’s toy killing obsession. She can murder an animal toy faster than the stock market is dropping.  Its dramatic, its sudden, sometimes very frightening and you have to wonder who is going to have to clean up the mess.
But I digress.
She must have carried a piece of the fuzz into the whelping box...
