del Rio kennels – home to belgian malinois bio picture

Welcome to del Rio kennels!

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligient and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But through out the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Petersburg, Virginia which is located just south of Richmond, the state capitol of Virginia. Their breeding program takes into consideration the ultimate health of the parents, the development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and the training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Another Ivan image

Well, to say the least, response to the Ivan blog entry has been overwhelming! I found one additional picture of Ivan with Angela from last weekend that I thought I would post for all.

April 13, 2008 - 7:39 am Kim Remmel - Love it! Love it! Angela, you are a lovely woman. What a beautiful boy! This pic is charming and speaks to the heart of another rescue human.......me! They appear to be sharing heartfelt whispers. Bobby, thank you for taking and sharing this pic! What a dandy!

What the heck? I’ve forgotten about the others….

On the road again….I’m back on the road again…and in more ways than one.
I participated in a rescue transport today. And I wasn’t too happy to do it. I had arrived from a long week in PA on a train that was delayed due to the derailment of a cargo shipment on the...

April 6, 2008 - 5:06 am Kim & Dakota - Awwwwaaaahhhh. These are darling pics! Thank you for taking these and sharing them! Kim and her pup pup, Dakota

March 31, 2008 - 6:44 am Marianne - It works on the other side, too. When I adopted my three-legged BSD rescue, we had trouble with transport (just Ohio to Wisconsin). It was Memorial Day weekend and I got on the Yahoo group that helps transporting rescued animals. A woman volunteered to go over the border on Sunday night of that busy weekend, from Chicago, to pick up Cody and held him a day until my son could get down there. She refused to take any money, even for gas, just told me to do the same someday. I actually have not been able to return the favor yet, not alot of animals coming this way. But I am always looking. So, thanks to all who help with rescue - I have three right now, from various groups. Marianne with Cullie, Cody and Mocha

March 31, 2008 - 1:02 am Lynnette Bennett - Awww! There's nothing quite like the re-awakening that participating in rescue provides. The high points are usually when we least expect them -- and when we most need them. Thanks, Bobby. Lynnette

March 30, 2008 - 9:15 pm Robin Sallie - I'd like to know how you could pass him on to his next ride. What a handsome dog.

March 30, 2008 - 2:33 pm Becky - Good job by good folks! He looks like a really nice boy, glsd you did some pictures. East coast is tough, so many Mals in rescue......

March 30, 2008 - 1:43 pm Susan - You are right about what you said Bobby. We can give all we want, but to help in the transport tells it all. Been there, done that - as much as I can. Breaks my heart to see all the belgians(and other dogs) that need rescue. Makes me cry, smile to read the good stories that come out of the rescue :c) Sue and the mali gang

March 30, 2008 - 7:26 am Beverly Enold - Bobby and Angela, Thank you so much for helping Ivan! The photos are great as always, and thank you too for spreading the gospel about the joys of volunteering on BELG-L. We need all the help we can get! Beverly

March 29, 2008 - 11:58 pm Sheila Walker - Hey Bobby! You are lucky that Angela did not insist on keeping Ivan, the pictures of the two of them with Ivan's paws on her shoulders is just wonderful!!! I'm sure he'll make some happy person a dear companion.

March 29, 2008 - 11:20 pm Linda - The name Ivan says it all!!! Besides my terv True, the other love of my life is Ivan the Pekingese!!!! Nuff said... He looks absolutely adorable. Rescues sure are difficult but good for the soul. Been there, done that, a few times, and from what I can see with the malli Ivan, he will ooze into someone's heart in a minute.

March 29, 2008 - 11:06 pm Nancy - Isn't it a great feeling? I love the look in their eyes, a look of gratitude. Nancy Vida

What the heck? When the magic is gone….

Got a hair cut today. Yes, I’m not good about that sort of thing. But the reason I bring it up is because of the story the hair stylist brought up as I was losing some hair.
She told me of a call she received from her 10 year old grandson. He tearfully asked whether there...

Laeken sighting!

Shot at this weekend’s Raleigh, NC shows.
Unfortunately I was using a very fast lens which places A LOT of blur [depth of field] on a subject that does not have flat face [ehem...like humans].
Post addition:  This pups name is ….. “Jolt” – Winjammer Electric Boogaloo.

March 23, 2008 - 12:45 am Becky - So, who is the puppy? Can't have a nameless pup....

What the heck? My neck is killing me….

Tried a Dunkin’ Donuts cappuchino.  Not bad.  Missing the full espresso taste but passable.
I’m not sure how they do it.  My dogs, I mean.  How can they lay on a couch or an easy chair, hang their head and neck over the edge, and SLEEP?  I used to think it was easy for them because...

What the heck? Show season is upon us…..

I’ve just gone to my first conformation show of the year and I was hoooooked again. Its nuts how the show bug can “re-infect” you.  I was in York, PA to see my puppy girl be shown by Jo Ann Charnik
Next week, we’re going to be down in Raleigh, NC for another group of shows....

What the heck? You must have been in pictures….

I’m on a train headed up to Wilmington, DE….Train coffee is better than hotel coffee though.  Its Maxwell house fresh out of the industrial brewer but the key word is “fresh”.
A few dozen creamettes and I’m fixed up to go.
So, I’ve had more time to think lately.  Mostly because I’ve forced myself back into the...

What the heck? One year ago….

I’ve only had crappy hotel coffee during the work week since January 3rd.  Hotel coffee sucks.  I miss my Cuisinart Brewmaster……..
One year ago yesterday, I shared in my first Malinois litter – watching in horror as they appeared magically from the loins of my dear girl Tammy. It was a half endearing and a half...

What the heck? I’m too sexy, I guess….

Had an excellent breakfast this morning….NOT.  McDonald’s McSkillet burrito might be filling but its still not good food.
So, we drove to a dear friends house today to visit with her dogs and to bring our co-owned bitch for a visit. Of course, I brought my camera and shot close to 800 pics.  Slow day in...
