del Rio kennels – home to belgian malinois bio picture

Welcome to del Rio kennels!

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But through out the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Petersburg, Virginia which is located just south of Richmond, the state capitol of Virginia. Their breeding program takes into consideration the ultimate health of the parents, the development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and the training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Early Morning Thoughts – Cesar Millan

Ok, I’ve got a final opinion………

So, I’ve read and written alot about Cesar the Perro Whisperer. <Perro is dog in Spanish for those who took French and German in high school> My final conclusion is that I welcome him to the dog world. In my short time with dogs, I’ve tried and tried to get through to “pet” people about the same things Cesar deals with.

And not just about training but also about their perception of pet store puppies, puppy mills, fly by night trainers, Petsmart, PETA, Pit Bulls vs. American Pit Bulls, UKC/AKC versus APRA, and so many other things. Cesar gets THROUGH to those people. His charisma and assertiveness gets through to about 85% of the people he deals with. His simple mantra of “Exercise, Discipline, and Affection” is straightforward enought to make a dent in some noggins.

I can almost relate Cesar to Jack LaLane, the exercise guru. He is changing the way people think with enthusiasm and simplicity. Now, that simplicity is no different from the techniques that were used 20 years ago but he isn’t trying to train a dog for competition. He’s trying to make a dog “livable” so it doesn’t end up in a pound, being put down, or even worse, out on the street.

I don’t use or recommend Cesar’s techniques – but for any pet person who will believe everything they watch on the boob tube, I point them straight to National Geographic channel.
