del Rio kennels – home to belgian malinois bio picture

Welcome to del Rio malinois!

The Belgian Malinois is a highly athletic, intelligent and active breed. These are traits that first drew us into the Belgian Malinois.  Once you have brought one into your life, you discover how much more there is to fall in love with.  The Malinois can bring endless joy and at times, heartache. But throughout the journey with this wonderful breed, you will realize your life is so much more enriched than it would have been without a "Maligator" by your side.

Bobby and Angela live in Frederick County near Winchester, Virginia which is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of northern Virginia, about an hour west of Washington, DC.

Their breeding program takes into consideration temperment and character, first and foremost, as well as the physical health of the parents.  The utmost concern is spent on development of the litter through the first few weeks of their lives, and training and upbringing of the Malinois once accepted into their loving homes. We stand by our puppies, not just as breeders, but as champions of the breed and friends of their new owners.

This blog will present you with the images, stories, and videos of our Malinois. At times, we will carry a story and a picture from our extended Malinois family. Feel free to contact us or comment on our site.

Early Evening Thoughts – Mastiff in Motion

Niño and I competed in an agility trial today in Gloucester, VA. Since there was an event photographer, I was going to keep my camera in the van…..THEN, I saw her across the ring. She had these big brown eyes and moved like nothing I’ve ever seen. To call her poetry in motion wouldn’t be...

Late Night Rants – Don’t Leave Home Without Them

There was a recent thread with a subject of “Guilt Over Leaving Dogs in the Evening” started by one of our Belgian e-friends in SoCal. During her night out she witnessed a historic baseball game won by the Bums who hit four straight homers to tie the game and then won it on another homah...

Early Morning Thoughts – Asia, My Sweet

Do anyone of you have that “special” dog your life? Not the one who can herd like the best of the border collies, nor the one who can run an agility course like, well, like the best of the border collies. Not even the one who can track like a hound, capture a crowd’s heart...

Late Night Rants – Dogs in the Workplace

Some of you might have caught the recent segment on one of our national television networks [I'm not pitching them unless I'm getting' a stipend] which featured businesses which allowed the employees to bring their dogs to work. The segment cited improved morale, productivity, increased attendance, etc. As a follow up, a local radio station...

Early Morning Thoughts – Dogs and Celebrities

This is prompted not by my second cup of coffee but from another post to a different group……in a land and time far, far away. The trigger was watching your dog develop and become “mature”. How one day you sort of notice that “Baby’s all growed up” – which is a line from one of...

Morning Rant – blather and blither

Two cups of coffee down, one chorizo and huevos breakfast consumed, and having cleaned up the van…………. Well, I wouldn’t say its a Big Brother statement but I can understand the intent of the message of “Some people shouldn’t have kids” and “some people should not be allowed to breed”. I think we all know...

Early Morning Thoughts – Email Wars

Ok, I had some coffee [but no toast yet] when I read a post from yesterday that started me thinking………..[yes, cue the music....but nothing from the Sound of Music] What are those repeated subjects that send people off on the email flaming/hurricane wars – not just this Belgian lists but other groups as well [but especially...

Early Morning Thoughts – Working out, Cooling Down

I’ve been getting up each morning because of the heat and working the dogs out instead of watching tv or eating my breakfast [but I still got the cup o' java - can I get an AMEN!?!?]. But, I digress. So, I’m working them out, doing some hard repetitive stuff, long sprints and some nice...

Early Morning Thoughts – Cesar Millan

Ok, I’ve got a final opinion……… So, I’ve read and written alot about Cesar the Perro Whisperer. <Perro is dog in Spanish for those who took French and German in high school> My final conclusion is that I welcome him to the dog world. In my short time with dogs, I’ve tried and tried to...
